Moatbook is a local-first journaling app. We designed it so your notes never leave your device unless you explicitly choose cloud sync — and even then, your data goes to your own cloud storage, not ours.
Nothing. Moatbook does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. There is no account, no login, no analytics SDK, and no telemetry.
The following data is stored locally on your device only:
This data is stored in a local SQLite database on your device. It is never sent to Moatbook or any third party.
If you choose to enable cloud sync, your data is:
The OAuth authentication flow to your cloud provider happens directly between your device and that provider (Google, Dropbox, or Microsoft). Moatbook does not see or store your cloud storage credentials.
If you use the AI writing assistant:
Moatbook does not integrate any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or data brokers.
The only optional third-party connections are:
| Service | Purpose | When used |
|---|---|---|
| Google Drive | Cloud backup storage | Only if you enable sync with Google Drive |
| Dropbox | Cloud backup storage | Only if you enable sync with Dropbox |
| Microsoft OneDrive | Cloud backup storage | Only if you enable sync with OneDrive |
| Anthropic Claude | AI writing assistant | Only when you submit an AI query |
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete everything by uninstalling the app. There is nothing on our servers to delete.
Moatbook is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
If we update this policy, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
